In the recent days we’ve woken up to the new reality. The world is in a state of fear and uncertainty that is stressful and overwhelming for all of us. In times of uncertainty the small businesses, freelancers and artist are extra exposed and vulnerable to the economic slowdown. We brainstormed some tips how can we all help and support the independent businesses we love – without even leaving home.
1. Shop local
Shop from your favourite online brands or visit smaller, independently-owned grocery stores – they are usually fully stocked and less frequented than large shopping malls.
2. Order in
Support your local restaurant by using their delivery service. To minimise yours and their exposure, pay online and ask them to leave the bag of food outside your door.
3. Buy gift cards
Purchasing a gift card for your favourite shop, cafe or restaurant is an immediate way to put cash into small businesses. You’ll be able to use it as soon as the situation calms down.
4. Support online service providers
Find alternative ways to enjoy your usual experiences – sign up for virtual classes, programs, streamings and events. Use this time to get inspired, to learn and expand your skills.
5. Keep memberships
Most of the companies had to close their doors for weeks. Support your favorite places by not cancelling your membership.
6. Promote your favourite businesses
Like, comment and share the posts of your favourite small businesses, promote their work or share encouraging words. Every small act of kindness helps!
