The latest collection by Katja Kuhar draws inspiration from the cultural legacy of Alma M. Karlin (1889-1950), an extraordinary woman, a female creature, as she used to call herself, a writer, a polyglot, and a worldwide traveler. Born in Celje, Slovenia, Alma M. Karlin embarked on a long, nine-year journey around the world in 1919. During her tenure, she visited South and North America, the Far East, the Pacific Islands, Australia, New Zealand, and Southeast Asia. She traveled alone and continuously secured a steady income through writing. At that time, Alma was the first woman to set off on a journey around the world for such a long time and to support herself during the journey with her own work. This makes her one of the greatest world travelers of all time and a natural inspiration for Katja, who used motives from Alma’s journey in her prints as well as the design of the latest collection.
