Writing this editorial we can hardly believe it has been a year since utopiast developed from an idea and transformed into reality. What started as a dream of collecting at one place favourite pieces and designers, became a girl powered online store presenting fresh selection of independent designers and makers from South and Eastern Europe.
Our goal was never to only retail but to curate and tell design stories from our many times neglected region. To present unique creations, passions and tehniques of designers and makers that share minimalistic approach towards design and produce their work locally in Europe. We need this more than ever. Today we represent the designers from 7 countries: Slovenia, Croatia, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia, Estonia and Czech Republic and connect them with customers from all over Europe, Asia, USA and Australia. Customers that are looking for fresh and different, made locally and sustainably.
Looking back there is many things we would do differently. There are many things we could do better. But we have learned and grown a lot and therefore look back with pride. We know who we are and what we strive for. We will continue to push boundaries further with professionalism and understanding.
As Walt Disney once said “You can design and create, and build the most wonderful place in the world. But it takes people to make the dream a reality”.
Therefore: Dear designers, customers and supporters: THANK YOU! We appreciate our relationship and love you show us daily! Thank you for your support, we look forward to writing utopiast story together!

Katja sharing her current obsessions: Neutrals I do not know why, but lately I have been obsessing with neutral interiors. Usually I gravitate to dark, almost masculine interiors. It all started with one sublime photo, than I searched for inspiration at Pella Hedeby and Lotta Agaton. And now it is all about neutrals. Neutrals are anything but [...]
Ever wondered how the idea of indoor plants became so popular? Houseplants were once status symbols, meant to impress. From Roman times to renaissance, with lavish orangeries, indoor plants were in domain of wealthy. Later, the industrial revolution coupled with advancements in architecture allowed for better-heated homes and more natural light. Houseplants became mainstream in [...]
Design style is a constantly evolving thing. Right now, something old and something new with a bit of glamour is how I like to describe my style these days. I am obsessed to use vintage pieces in my designs. So I have a special joy in bringing old things back to life and I see [...]
