The bedroom is one of my favorite spaces in the house. What can I say — I like sleeping. But I have actually struggled to get my bedroom remodeled for quite some time.I brooded over it for months – why wasn’t it perfectly cocooning and cosy? I have chosen the right colour, right bed for a room size, oversized chandelier, textures in form of kilims and blankets… but it somehow wasn’t coming together. I knew exactly the feeling I wanted to evoke, but I couldn’t quite nail that mixture of relaxed glam and cosiness.
Well an epiphany came from nowhere when I was strolling in Vienna, surrounded by antiques shops. Adding some vintage pieces or we can say adding some drama! I am obsessed to use vintage pieces in any room. I really try as much as possible to avoid creating total looks. I find them boring. Vintage pieces transform any room instantly – adding personal note and uniqueness.

Step #1: Focus on Basics
Before you start deciding where to put what, think about the furniture you’re using and try to use only the pieces that are necessary for the room to function. This is especially important in small apartments when there isn’t a lot of extra space– using fewer pieces will make the room look and feel a lot more spacious. If your room is extra tiny, use taller dressers and shelves to get more storage while taking up less room.
So to get back to our subject, remodelling the bedroom. Arranging furniture is an art— no, seriously, it’s one of the most important parts about interior design. That’s not to say that it’s best left to the pros, though. Everyone can design their own perfect space with just a little bit of thought and a lot of experimentation. So to make it a bit easier for you I came down with a list on how to tackle rearranging any room without going through war of nerves.

Step #2: Rearranging Items that you Already Have
Another quick tip before you get started: Don’t buy new furniture until you’ve arranged the pieces you already have. Think about your sofa table that you are fed up with, it can perfectly work as your new side table – hint you will be still able to buy new sofa table.

Step #3: Draw it Out
It’s a good idea to experiment with different arrangements on paper before you start pushing furniture around the room. Measure at least your biggest items (bed, dresser, shelves, etc.), as well as the dimensions of your room, then sketch out a couple of different options. If you’re not much of an artist, check out an app that can do the job for you. Because there is an app for everything.

Step #4: Think About Function
While figuring out how to arrange furniture in your new bedroom, think about your lifestyle. This could really affect where your furniture ends up. Also, plan your walkways. If your bed is blocking your path from the dresser to the mirror, you may find yourself a little annoyed down the road.
Step #5: Bed First
Once you’re ready to put the pencil and paper (or app) down, and start actually arranging, begin with your bed. Traditionally, beds are placed on the wall opposite the door or the largest one with no windows. In a small bedroom, you may have to break these guidelines, though. Find a spot for your bed that makes the most sense to you, just make sure you can open and close your bedroom and wardrobe doors.

Step #6: Begin Big
When you’ve found the spot you think works best for your bed, arrange everything else starting with the biggest furniture item followed by smaller ones. Usually the wardrobe comes next, followed by bedside tables, a desk, shelves, chairs, and anything else you may have.

Step #7: Be Bold
There are a lot of guidelines when it comes to how to arrange furniture, but there’s no wrong way to design your bedroom’s layout. If your bed ends up being beneath the windows, or your wardrobe has to be directly next to it, that’s fine. Just figure out what works best for you and your space.

And one more, do not stop decorating too soon. Most people do. And yet it’s the rugs, the cushions, the light, texture, pattern, arts and greenery. Push the boundaries, be daring, express yourself but most of all enjoy decorating!

I am a firm believer that anyone can create a space that looks like a million bucks, but actually spent very little. All it takes is proper planning, ingenuity, patience and a keen eye. While proper planning is essential for any home improvement project, its necessity is even more important when you’re working on a [...]
Artwork by Célia Euvaldo "I’ve been 40 years discovering that the queen of all colors was black," once said Pierre-Auguste Renoir. The supposed non-color, the result of the absence of light, was always the color of mystery, power, and mortality. For many, though, black continues to be the anchor of style. "Black is modest and arrogant [...]
