»The starting point and the concept of the collection WITCHES LOOKBOOK was formed and based on the foundation of correlation between the city and the forest, which in symbolic language represent the conscious and subconscious, imaginative mind«, Janja Videc describes her latest collection Witches Lookbook.
Through the collection she tells the story of a modern, business woman, who lives in the middle of the town, but her other half is connected with her wild nature, which resides in the middle of the forest, in the world of images, where the boundaries between space and time are not clearly defined.
»Personally, I’ve always perceived witches as positive figures, with whom I could always easily relate to. The witches archetype teaches us that, the power lays within the integration with the nature´s cycle«,
says Janja, who grew up in Slovenia and studied Textile and fashion design at University of Ljubljana. And nature is one of the greatest parts of her brand identity.
Janja operates socially responsible, local and sustainable. Avoiding the seasonal changes, brand is based on a monochromatic color scale, well thought tailoring and geometrically shaped patterns and is consequently wearable in many different ways, anytime of the year. Great emphasis is put on the material.
»Great material can contribute to the aesthetic as well as functional aspect of clothing, while material of poor quality will ruin even the most sophisticated cut. Precisely for this reason I work with mostly natural materials, such as jute, silk, cotton and wool«, adds Videc.
Each collection creation starts with a story and long research process. This can take several months, while drawing and modeling on the manikin occur very quickly. »When I have a vision of the collection, realization process is a very fast run«, says Janja. For each collection Janja herself draws patterns and creates prototypes – not only so that the final result is really such as she imagined, but also because during the process she finds new ideas and new solutions for the further creation.
A lot of thought is put into the woman that wears Janja Videc clothing. It is a woman who appreciates beauty, favors quality over quantity and enjoys the simple, yet effective solutions. She is a bit mysterious, respects the others, but lives and creates her own reality. »Every day I am inspired by authentic, wise women, who are what they are, no matter what. I am overwhelmed by their faces and depth of the magic that is innate to them«, add Videc.
Long wool coats, sheer silk tunics and dress, side slit trousers, jumpsuit and matching pencil skirt are versatile pieces that for sure adapt to modern women lifestyle. And which piece from Witches Lookbook collection is Janja’s favourite? »At first it was long gray coat that can be worn in several different ways, but currently long black vest is the one on the daily rotation.«

Artwork by Célia Euvaldo "I’ve been 40 years discovering that the queen of all colors was black," once said Pierre-Auguste Renoir. The supposed non-color, the result of the absence of light, was always the color of mystery, power, and mortality. For many, though, black continues to be the anchor of style. "Black is modest and arrogant [...]
