In the recent days we’ve woken up to the new reality. The world is in a state of fear and uncertainty that is stressful and overwhelming for all of us. We kept it pretty quiet on the utopiast’s channels for the last couple of days since we wanted to take time to contemplate what is appropriate to do and communicate in the times of crisis most of us haven’t yet experienced. What does resonate with our customers and followers? Do you still want to hear about new collections, our rants on sustainability and minimalism? Or do you simply need a break to focus on yourself?
Asking myself these questions, I have remembered the words of my uni professor who always said that in the times of uncertainty you need to return to your core values – this is when they matter most. utopiast’s mission since its beginning was to support and share the work of independent designers and sustainable brands committed to creating products with care and integrity. Predictions already show that these are the businesses that will be extra exposed and vulnerable to the economic slowdown. Therefore I see it as our duty to keep promoting, supporting and helping our creators. Especially because as native online business we are extremely lucky to be able to continue most of our operations with only slight adaptations of workflow.
As our follower you probably know that we’ve always discouraged mindless consumption – and we still do! But this time we also have to urge you: if you can, please keep supporting your favourite independent businesses that are making change in the world. We have brainstormed some tips how you can do this without even leaving your home. This is the only way inspiring, progressive businesses will continue to flourish when the crisis is over.
Stay safe! Sandra

Minimalism has been labeled the pioneer of forward-thinking design. Minimal interior design breaks a room into the necessities—this means every single item must be functional. It values combination of [...]
The modernity of the twentieth century pushed women’s design skills to the side-lines, where it has been virtually ignored by design historians and theorists. But to address the question of gender in design in an objective and balanced manner, we first need to examine the great removal of the female gender perpetrated during the twentieth [...]

Work is out, temperatures are hot, vacation mood is on. Pure fun, lots of ice cream and spending as many days as possible near water are our only plans for the next two months. Summer is the season of simplicity so when it comes to packing think about versatile pieces grounded in light-colored neutrals that [...]
