Your bedroom should be your personal sanctuary that is tailored to your needs, so take time to plan and make careful decisions on the floor plan, color scheme, needed furniture and accessories. Scroll through Pinterest, flick through your favourite magazines and then create the mood board of your dream bedroom. You will quickly see the common theme which will make your decisions on the right furniture and accessories much more straightforward.
2. Go subtle with the colors
The best colors to achieve a soothing, minimal look are neutral colors like whites, greys, creams or pastels like lavender, light blue or green. This doesn’t mean that your bedroom needs to be boring— feel free to play with patterns and textures or experiment with different ways to add interesting color pops to more neutrally colored walls and furniture. Bold throw pillows or a duvet cover, maybe an art piece or accessories in your favourite hue are a great place to start.

Regardless of your style, the bedroom should be the coziest place of your home where you can rest and relax without much distraction. A minimalist lifestyle is about living only with the things that bring value to your life. Therefore furnish your bedroom with the pieces you actually need: a bed, a bedside table or two and a dresser or clothing rack are necessities, anything else is optional and can be added later if needed. To achieve minimal look think of the visual weight of each piece. In a small bedroom floor plan, go for a light-looking bed and minimal nightstands. Rather than relying only on your overhead light, try to layer different types of light sources: bedside lamps to read by, a few lamps dotted around to create a lovely glow and an ambient light for the whole room. Try to keep your lighting warm and soft, so pick warm bulbs, dimmable switches and shades that diffuse the light.
